For sheer excitement, I don`t think hurling can be topped as a field sport. The speed and individual skill on show at Championship level is unbelievable. However you have to laugh when hurling pundits start stroking their chins when talking about the tactics a team employed.Soccer and chess have tactics.Hurling does not.The game is so exciting because it`s so frantic. All a player can do is hope to win his personal duel, puck the ball in the general direction of a teammate, hope he gains possession and shows some individual skill to score. The only time you`ll see a hurling team construct a free flowing move is when the opposition has given up....It`s the chaos that makes hurling great to watch....just spare us the ìntricate tactics nonsense.

Tactics has been in Hurling the last number of years in particular.
Cork had a running game that was primarily built on retaining possesion at all cost.Short passes with loads of runners availble for the pass.
That was the cornerstone of the O4-06 teams. It was different than the traditional first time hurling Cork were famous for.We had a different type of player so we had to play to their strengths. We would not have won 2 all irelands without tactics.
Kilkenny and credit due to them, managed to beat that system in 06 by crowding midfield. They played shrewd tactics that day.
Waterford in the 2010 Munster Final played extremely defensive and Galway played a two man full forward line last year.Tactics has been evident in the present game.
The days of playing fast, direct, off the cuff hurling are long gone.
Kilkenny are the only team that could play without tactics as each and every single one of their players can win their own ball and duels with their opponent.
The rest of the counties dont have the same talent in every position so have to play tactics.I have no problem with it.
Its part and parcel of the modern game.

You are correct. A little tactic here or there but in the main crash bang wallop.
