What is the issue ? Stewarding ? Marshalling ? Finance ? Hassle ?

Didn't the tour of ulster nearly cancel for 2013 ?

Another is the Betty and Sam D'arcy Cancel in Gorey ?

    What others have cancelled ?

    Why did they cancel ?

Thought Ulster was due to massive snow fall?

Seems to be marshalling problems from what I have seen online. I believe Ulster announced they were cancelling before Christmas and overseas teams pulled out. I agree with op - it is indeed a worrying trend.

Would it have anything to do with the Gardai and their 'work to rule' or would the incident down in Rathdowney spook organisers/clubs/insurers/County Councils have anything to do with it.

Rathdowney should not spook the organisers, / clubs / insurers,

Lad on wrong side of the road,......... hits a car .......lad on wrong side of road.............

I don't know the reasons for the cancellations of the particular races in question but if there is an issue with lack of marshals would it not be feasible to just change the circuit to a shorter one with less corners?

    It is worrying
Kildaven Sun May 19th rumoured to be off
Betty Darcy May 26th off [no sponsor]
No Swords GP this year[ongoing problems]
Thats the Leinster races that would normally be on in the next 3 w/ends.
I imagine its a combination of finance and manpower.Going forward I would like clubs to consider maybe joining forces and running a race therefore combining their resources of all kinds.Leinster meeting on Mon night and perhaps we can look of ways of improving the situation or getting an extra race or two promoted.
Dunsany GP tomorrow is typical example of what can be done.Whilst it is down as a Drogheda Wheelers promotion and I am happy to accept the buck stopping with me,it is really an effort between a couple of us and roping in helpers from as many clubs as we can.Theres def helpers from 4 clubs tomorrowThe idea is to cater for the A3/A4/JUN/WOMAN,because theres no other event for them this week.Get together and its amazing what a few heads working together can achieve.Build it and they will come.

    A fair pint WAV:

Betty D'arcy is run by a wexford club. there are five main clubs in county wexford,

Wexford wheelers, ( wexford town and south county) Slaney, enniscorthy based, South east road Club ( Gorey based), Barrow wheelers ( New Ross based), and Slipstream ( Gorey based)

Slipstream promote the betty D'arcy. The county operates an informal county board, whereby reps from each club meet and discuss issues and interclub leagues and finances.

unfortunately we had no opportunity to discuss the potential cancelation of the betty d'arcy prior to the club submitting the cancelation to CI.

subsequently the remaining clubs have taken on board to resolve the issue ( primarily resources), and we are seeking an opportunity to run the race in 2013. We have at this stage relinquished the possibility of running on the scheduled date.

to your point WAV, Clubs should meet at a county representative level, to help aid , resolve issues with smaller clubs.

Wexford takes the view that riders want to race and prize is secondary. Put on the race , even if the envelope has a note saying IOU, and garner support from neighbouring clubs if you feel u might be forced to cancel.

be interested in attending a leinster based meeting in Dublin ( I presume) next Monday night.

we have a few potential points, as solutions from our experience down here.

Best of Luck with the Dunsany tomorrow.

Thanks guys. Keep us posted. Just feels like the season has this big hiatus. Weather is hopefully getting better, training coming on and....no races in Leinster. I can't see anything until June.

Just seen posted on the IVCA website:
Due to unforeseen circumstances Tuesday evening ROAD RACES have been cancelled. Tuesday evening TT's will go ahead as per calendar.

That's 6 races gone between now and mid-July

Whats the problem here beasty? Is it more ''red tape''stuff or no helpers etc.Again its a trend that needs to be reversed fast as this kind of stuff could become habit forming.

I think it's in relation to circumstances with Swords League and problems with County Council and garda concerns. No shortage of marshalls in IVCA or riders.

this is why we need IVCA and CI working together on this. This will spread to all areas next year mark my words.

Is it safety concerns at the centre of this? Does anyone know exactly what are the issues?
This situation needs to be addressed before it snowballs to other events.

This seems very sensible to me and I'd imagine at least 90% or racers would not have a problem with this.

Any club which is contemplating cancelling a event on a financial basis should have no problem adopting this measure.

Thought Ulster was due to massive snow fall?

The Tour of Ulster was indeed nearly cancelled this year. Story and reasons here: http://cyclingulster.com/?p=10434

Carn Wheelers stepped in take over the promotion of the event.

There was a cancellation this year and that was the Tour of the North due to snow fall. Pics on their site:

It looks likely that a group of us [together with the backing of Cycling Leinster]will be putting on an event on Sun June 2nd for all senior categories at a venue somewhere in the Meath area [to be decided].We just have to get the ok from the other provinces saying they have no objections to this[One ok in already].This is normal protocol when an extra event is being added which is not already included in the calender of events. So it looks likely now that ye wil have a race after all on the bank holiday weekend.More details to follow when all is agreed.

Great work Wav1 and the rest of the organisers. Defo supporting this.

To make funding races easier would clubs consider having an option of riders making on the day voluntary contributions, like having a basket where those who can afford to give a few quid extra could bring it along in an envelope and contribute? There are enough of us riding on bikes that cost more than the average car, ingesting tubs of energy drinks as €30 a pop, sporting crazy expensive cylcing kit... surely those who can give a few bob extra would buy into this in the interest of supporting races and racing in general... there will always be the clowns who can afford such an effort but chose not to out of slyness, but the vast majority of guys racing are decent and maybe this could provide an extra income stream for clubs. If 50% of riders gave 5 -10 euro extra that would make a difference.
