    Hi there,
I was hoping someone could help me with my question :

I am a single mother, I am currently in secondary level education, and after I do my leaving cert I am moving out of my family home with my baby, and starting a college course. I was wondering is it possible for me to get rent allowance as I've read that you cannot get it if your in full-time education , and I'm not sure if it applies to one-parent families also.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

You have to be renting privately for at least 6 months before you qualify for RA. You also have to be on your Local Authority's housing list. You'll get full info on the Citizen Information website. You will not receive RA while in college.

Oh, but if im on the housing list is there a chance of lower payment if I actually get a house from them?

All Local Authority's charge rent based on a percentage of your income.See here http://www.google.ie/search?hl=en&q=differental+rent+scheme

Yes you can receive rent allowance while attending college, If you go to your local community welfare officer she/he should give you all the information you need.

Op you do realise you would be waiting anything from 6 to 10+ years waiting to be housed by your local council ,
I wouldn't be worried about lower payments if housed anytime soon
