Hey was just wondering about average speed haha I joke. No in seriousness I'm considering my first club race next week and I was wondering as to is there any specific no no ways of riding. I'm experienced in group rides, but never raced. Do the same rules apply about passing not passing on the inside and such.

Basically any tips on how not to be a danger. Thanks:)

You can pass where ever you like in a safe manner. I wouldn't go diving up the inside of corners though, which is what plenty seem to think is a good idea. Just hold your line on the corner.

Its a criterium in Derry. The course is closed so no worries about traffic at least :)

Crits are tough, lot of cornering. Definitely hold your line, and be aware of riders on both your inside and outside - try not to cut across them, and be wary that they might cut across you.

That said, it is a race, and your aim is to get ahead of them. Be safe, but be competitive!

Did the race, it was brilliant.
Went of in the first group and we were away six laps before some of the second group caught us and I managed to jump on the back of it. Having been told by an experienced man to refuse to work in this group as I should only be expected to work in my first group unless feeling very strong, so I only did a couple of pulls.
The scratch of 1 caught us then, and passed incredibly fast (formerly rid in teams abroad) so he was gone, managed to stay in the group till the last lap and lost time in a corner and ended up 8th which i was happy with.

I could handle the pace fairly well but was just the corners in the wet where I was loosing time and was having to sprint to tag back on. Hard to know what speed I could go without crashing.

All in all a great experience, 21 miles at 23mph, was pretty exhilarating.
