Just posting this as it may interest some people here.
Lester Piggott has been confirmed as guest of honour at the official launch of the newly redeveloped Tipperary Racecourse, which takes place on Thursday May 16th.

Tipperary has built a new entrance building, secretary’s office and a pre-parade ring facility in addition to the already completed American-style barn with 42 stables. Further developments are planned over the summer months.

The launch celebrations coincide with Tipperary’s Point-to-Point race evening, featuring a competitive seven-race National Hunt card including the P2P.ie mares and geldings Point-To-Point INH Flat Races, and the Rathbarry and Glenview Studs Novice Hunters Chase.

Jane Davis Manager at Tipperary Racecourse said: - “We are very honoured that Lester Piggott will be joining us at Tipperary Races for the official launch of our new facilities. He is a hero to so many people and is a true icon of our sport. It is believed that it was a ride on-board Don Leone in the charity race at Tipperary in 1990 that prompted Lester’s return from retirement. Thursday’s launch will be a wonderful occasion and we look forward to welcoming all racegoers for a great night’s racing and entertainment”

After the third race Lester Piggott will be joined by the Chairman of Tipperary Racecourse, Mr. Tim Hyde and members of the Racecourse Committee at the new entrance building to cut the ribbon on the new development.

Given that Mr. Piggott spent a good deal of his career in the county it is fitting that he should have the honour of opening the newly revamped Tipperary Racecourse.

Nice touch, and best of luck to everyone at the course !

I hope to make it down next week.

Lester was a legend no doubt - but he did not spend "a good deal of his career" in Tipp.

He was the ultimate hired gun with loyalty to no-one but himself - I loved that about him.

Maybe saying he spent "a good deal of his career" in Tipp was poorly phrased but his connections with Ballydoyle in that county are beyond question.

Agree about him being "the ultimate hired gun". I loved that about him too.
