I have had lovely privacy at my back garden until a horse ate all the foliage behind the fence!
I put large extra string plastic bin bags up but it looks stupid!

Tried different things on the fence but no use

I wondered if anyone has an idea on how to shield the fence reliable and cheaply till my hedge grows!!
    See photos
    Thks
    Paddy

STILL LOOKING FOR SOMETHING DECENT QUALITY FOR SCREENING ....NOT TOO EXPENSIVE!!!!!

You could get a 2 meter tall roll of black or green security fabric that you see on building sites.Cable tie that along the chain link fecning.

Yoy can get this is any good builders providers or NAD.

    www.nad.ie

    PS-What hedge is that?..(beech)?

Are you looking after it..as in soil prerpeation??

You will need to keep the area under and around the whips grass free.

    Good idea for the OP.:)

2 of them cable tied onto the fence (1 ion top of the other) and you have full/complete screening for 22 euro.

Looks like they still are...they should be alot more developed than that and should have a propper branch structure.
Basicly, you should have a small hedge at this stage.

Were they bareroot or potted beech??

    What condition is the soil??

We planted bareroot hornbeam whips 3 years ago,and now they are currently 4.5 feet tall and a lovely full hedgerow.
Target pruned each year to make them branch out,and then we will let it grow another foot this season, and then prune back a bit again.

they were in pots , there is a water issue at that area , I am trying to dig a soak pit there presently , too much water , or saturated garden wouldn't help either id imagine

    ???????

Well they would be alot better than cut up black plastic bags.

22 euro would get you a nice looking full screen from Aldi that will last you a few years.

You said you wanted cheap screening.......so another member has come to your help here by posting the link to them for you.:)

They look worse than plastic bags. I appreciated that post from that very helpful member. The screening is completely see through....very lightweight
and most unsuitable for what I require but may be suitable for certain jobs.
If you got a few months out of it you would be doing extremely well,in my opinion. Have a look yourself and see! I appreciate other peoples help and opinions , this may be of help to others...I see woodies do a dearer and I suppose better/stronger one...its a case of you get what you pay for as usual

What about a roll of Mypex weed barrier?

Ive seen this used as a screen on a railings,as the owner was like you...newly planted hedgerow, but wanted instant private screening?

You can buy a full roll of it or buy it per meter in most good garden centres and nurseries.

A 2 meter tall x 1 meter wide piece of it is around 3 euro.

12 euro would get you a 2 meter tall x 4 meter wide length..that would cover your fence perfectly.:)

Other thing I can think of is a roll of heavy duty security netting/screening that you see on building sites and the site fences.

Nad stock it...as do most good builders providers.
