What can I do about a €10,000 bill from my accountant?

    Hi

    If it went on for 2 years it may mean that the there were issues and queries that were complex and needed to be addressed by senior experienced staff that were expensive. However it can happen that although an audit has concluded, the revenue are slow in giving the final notice. Especially when there is no tax to pay.

    Also it can happen that when a tab is left open for some time it can attract time. The persons who were involved at the start may no longer work for the firm and a new person will need to take over and get up to speed. A certain element of re-learning will also occur every time the file needs to be picked up and work done on it.

    So its hard to know whether the accountant did a good or a bad job. It is always a bad thing to deliver surprise fees unnecessarily however.

    That is a nonsense article.

    there is no mention of what her husband does. For all we know he could be running a multi-million Euro business and the 10K for a revenue audit could represent excellent value for money.

    The Independant should either have got a lot more information or not published the Q & A.

    It's impossible to tell without knowing all the details however the article seems to give a very one sided angle.
