I got caught for tv licence last year but not every body in the house would contribute. So got the renewal in the post; thinking of just ignoring it but its in my name so is the chance of avoiding it minimal?

They know from a database who has paid and who has not.
    They will catch you.

Do what I do and pay by monthly direct debit - it works out about €13 per month.

We have an old analog television that we only use for watching DVDs, we have not got any other television. I rang up and was told that we do need a television licence for the analog television even though it cannot receive pictures as it could receive pictures if we got some sort of box to go with it. We only want the televion to view DVDs. Is there anything that we can do to watch DVDs on a reasonable size screen without having to buy a computer or a television licence?

nope..well you could buy a computer monitor...but you would need a vga or hdmi connectioon to be available to it...you couldnt use a coax as then you would be capable of putting a tv ariel in it..

You use the term "old analog television" as if they were somehow obselete.

They are not. There are a lot of households still using them to watch television. The license is for the television, not the set-top box.
