how to register an electric scooter?

I'm thinking of buying a ugo electric scooter on done deal but the owner won it in a competition so it has yet to be registered. How would I go about doing this? Will it cost much?

Also, on another note, I presume my full Irish license is sufficient for driving it? I'm a named driver on my partners car insurance policy so if I was to cancel my own car insurance (as I will be getting rid of my car) and get scooter insurance, would this mean I would no longer be covered on my partner's car?

I presume it does for tax and insurance reasons? There was a thread about it a few years back, some people suggested taking it to the nct center but there were no definitive answers.

I always thought the electric scooters would be exempt from having a reg and that because a scooter with a engine size less then 49cc is or definitely use to be.

That was never the case in Ireland.
My mother had a clip-on bicycle motor in the 1950s (something similar was Sochiro Honda's first product) - even then it needed motor tax and a number plate - no helmet then though!

Oddly enough, the only previous time I've heard an Ugo scooter mentioned was when someone won one - has anyone ever actually paid cash money for one?

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.
