4FM's Classic Top 100 on May Bank Holiday Monday

Did anyone hear 4FM's countdown based on listener's votes last Monday?

I listened to it quite a bit during the course of the day. I always was a sucker for all-time countdowns... even if I don't like the song!

    For those who missed it:

Rather controversially, while 4FM were counting down during the day, listeners could still vote and thus affect the final outcome of the Top 10.

For the most part, the selection of songs were what I would expect regular 4FM listeners to pick.

There were a few surprises, though. At 100, Blondie had One Day or Another - not one of their better known tunes - and none of their other songs featured at all. The Beatles hardly featured at all - just "Let It Be". I was surprised that U2's One was not in the Top 10, never mind the Top 100 - it regularly features in nearly every other all-time rock or pop countdown - "With or Without You was their only tune in the countdown but it did make the Top 10. I was also surprised that the Goo Goo Dolls, with "Iris", managed to end up so high in the countdown - No. 3.

What do people think of the Top 100?

    Seriously?

It is their most played song on Youtube. And recently covered by a certain X factor band.

The top 10 were bloody terrible. Iris I MEAN C'MON.

A huge amount of it isn't to my taste at all (Abba, Robbie Williams, Sting etc), so i'm probably not the best man to comment on how they are ranked.

However, I don't believe Brian Adams should be in any top ten ever.

Edit: in fact any top 100 that has more Brian Adams than Beatles probably shouldn't be taken seriously, I'm afraid.

Okay. I stand corrected. In fact, quite a few songs in the countdown had featured in films or tv programs. So fickle really!

Yeah, I think that Goo Goo Dolls song 'Iris' was on one of the Reality Shows recently and has crept back into the charts, maybe that partially explains the high position.

I heard a bit of it, enjoyable programming for a Bank Holiday but not to be taken seriously as a measure of favourite songs. As you said, having voting continuing while the programming has started was silly. Bands and singers with lots of popular songs tend to split their votes in these polls, so The Beatles get lots of voters but spread across dozens of songs.
