the clutch is "dragging" and could be caused by many things
    1. Incorrect adjustment of the cable
    2. cracked clutch fork
    3. clutch disc contaminated
    4. disc sticking on spigot shaft splines
    5. spigot shaft nose bearing seized or stiff
    6. faulty or incorrectly assembled parts (disc upside down)

Unfortunatly all tasks from 2 - 6 require taking the gearbox off again

I removed the mushroom spacer cap at the top of cable. this gives it about 10mm more slack. the car drives now but I have to lift the pedal up to the last before she bites and the adjustment at the back of the pedal is out to the last

clutch fork is fine and clutch disc are dry (new) and I cant put the disc up side down(bolts on flywheel catch disc)I have replaced the gearbox thinking that was the problem so what is the chances of both gearbox having seized or cracked parts.do you think it could be the release bearing unclipping from the clutch fork and causing a few mm of a gap

i dont know if the spigot shaft on that car has a nose that sits in a bearing on the flywheel or not> if it does, it needs a film of grease...as do the disc splines to allow the disc to move along it freely. clean all the dust off these also. not too much grease either as it will fly out all over the friction surface if over greased

also check if the fan pulley on the crankshaft moves in and out when you press the clitch up and down> if thrust bearings in engine are worn it will allow the flywheel to move away from the release bearing. its unlikley to be the cause but easier to check than taking out the gearbos again
Could be a gracked pedal or pedal box< especially check the bracket the cable outer fits into at the pedal end when you press it up and down
Also i've seen release bearings that are shorter than the previous one, measure the distance (height) from the bearing surface to the point that sits on the fork on both old and new

Sorry to jump on board but similar incident I have had with my wifes 206 1.1.

3 peice clutch kit and cable replaced about 3 months ago.

I noticed when driving the cable seemed to creek when pressing it down anfter a few times pressing from starting her up.

Over the last couple of weeks my wife noticed it was hard to get into gear when stopping at junctions e.t.c.

Last weekend I drove it again and when I pressed the clutch to the floor there was a whining sound and would go when released.

The clutch failed there yesterday while the wife was driving it.

I got the mechanic to look at that installed it initially, he now tells me the teeth are snapped and that I will have to fork out for more labour and to get he teeth replaced.

I would liek to know if this is possible or was it a poorly installed clutch the first time around?

    Any advice would be helpful!

    Thanks

If the "teeth" are broken after three months, I'd be getting the mechanic to replace it assuming he supplied the parts. The teeth are not "wearing parts" as such, unlike the disc and he cannot maintain that it's misuse. It's obviously a faulty pressure plate.

I'm not sure what the term teeth refers to....a 3 piece clutch is a pressureplate, disc and bearing. it could be the teeth where the disc engages on the spigott shaft but un likley and also should have ben checked and replaced the last time. it could be the fingers on the pressure plate.....these look a bit like teeth and wearing at the point where the bearing sits on it can happen if there is a fault with the bearing......this would also give you the dragging symptoms before it failed...but both these parts should have been replaced......I'd ask him to retain the old parts for the AA technical inspectors to have a look at and see if that does the trick....then you could post a picture of the faulty parts here.

Im sorry I know a little bit about cars but not too much on some of the parts.
is there anything from the gearbox side that can force the clutch to fail as it did?
I paid him for complete clutch kit(he bought) and install as well as new clutch cable.

He has told me that the clutch is fine but its what connects the gearbox to the clutch that caused the damage there.

He told me he has had to take out the gearbox and fit this part, got one from the scrap yard for €20 so Im told plus €80 for labour, had to get it done wife collects kids from school e.t.c.

feel a bit hard done by after already paying for complete clutch to be installed.

He is coming with the car now later on done and said he will bring the part with him, I will take pic of it and post up when I get it, I kow too late then but no harm in knowing if what he is saying is right or Im having to fork out again for his mistakes.

THanks guys for your responses, much appreciated!
