Need advice on pedals/shoes

    Been reading past postings on cycling pedals & shoes, but still confused.

    Getting 1st road bike soon and want the most suitable set-up for me.
    Have never used clip in pedals or shoes before.
    Will be working up to do sportives later in the "summer"



    Requirements:
    • pedals must be suitable for both runners and cycling shoes.
    • Shoes should allow for easy walking when required.
    • Budget is restricted.
    Any help/advice/links would be greatly appreciated.
