Car Insurance- Am I paying above average?

    Just briefly:
    Car worth 4000-2006
    Living: DUblin
    Age- 33-Female,
    8 yrs no claims.

    Premium : 440

Just wondering is that about average from other people's experiences. I've done a bit of shopping around and have had similar quotes but it's increased since last year anyway due to the equality ruling and some other feckin tax they've introduced. I also need to be able to pay monthly rather than one premium.

Will probably have to just suck it up and pay it methinks.

There are far too many variables for that kind of comparison - you haven't even mentioned what you're driving! Just make sure you're paying the lowest amount possible for the cover you need.

It's a FiAT PUNTO and I just wanted comprehensive. ONly use the car for social use.

There are still far too many variables to compare. If you've shopped around then you're paying the best price for you. :)

What area of Dublin, has the car an alarm and immobiliser.
What job have you got. Driving experience and no claims.

My wife is driving a 1.4 Mazda 3 and has me as a named driver 29 yrs of age, an accountant and price of insurance was €550.
Only named driving experience from 04 one crash on 09. Dublin 18.

Keep in mind, if it's an old Fiat Punto that's only worth a couple of hundred euro there's no point in getting comprehensive. Any accidental damage claim will practically write the car off and after you pay your excess you'll get very little back.

In fairness a 2006 Punto is worth more than a few hundred.

Saying that, I still wouldn't bother with fully compo.

Still no idea why the premium is €440.

I'm paying €245 to insure a Saab 9-3. The OP has the full NCB, and she is paying 80% extra. What variables could account for such a huge difference?

The OP's insurance is way too high IMO.

OP, you need to pick up the phone and ring around.

I renewed mine today with prices varying from €419 to €575 for fully comp on 07 avensis with open insurance added. I added a 31 year old lad to the policy this year and it jumped by €75 on the cheapest one.

Insurance seems to have risen this year across the range.

Called 123, Allianz, Zurich, FBD, AXA.

Did'nt bother with online as you cannot get enough info on policy comparisons. Stick to one layout (excess €200 +, NCD, Open insurance, fully comp/fire and theft, same value of car) and get direct comparisons. Then ring and bargain the best 2 off each other if policy is too similar. You always get discounts.

    Just renewed my policy.

Male, 24 years old, 1997 1L Micra (which is worth nothing really), 4 years no-claims. Premium: €393.

So yes, €440 for you does sound slightly excessive.

    1.3, 2006 swift, waterford, 10 yrs NCB, €280 comprehensive.

but quotes for this year (now that no one cares that I'm female!) are coming in around €390 :0

it's up in Oct though so I'll trawl before I make a decision.
