    Hi All,

A recent trip to the states has now gotten my into trying different beers from what I had previously tired (Miller, Heineken etc), during my trip and since I came home I have tried some amazing craft beers my with Anchor Steam and O’Hara’s Red being my stand outs, is there anything like/similar to those mentioned that I should try?

    Thanks,

    JD

Whereabouts are you living? You might not find a lot of the beers mentioned on here if you don't live in one of the major towns/cities.

My favourites are Metalman Pale Ale, Galway Hooker and pretty much the entire O'Hara's range. 8 Degrees from Mitchelstown make lovely beers too.

I live in Dublin and have found a few good places that stock a good range of craft beers. i.e. McHugh's. I have not tried the 8 degrees but have seen them, it will get added to the list.

I was amazed by the O'Hara's Red, I cannot believe it is not more popular than it is.......

If you have one of those new fangled smart phone thingys it may be worth your while downloading the Beoir app. It lists bars that stock craft beer in your area.
A few beers to try in addition to the others would be Dark Arts and Or from Trouble Brewing.

Bit like myself was in British Columbia a good few years ago and it really opened up the craft beer thing to me once you are hooked there is no going back . My social life revolves around the Beoir app on my phone to find pubs that stock decent craft beer there is no going back, love the oharas red myself you should try rebel red.

We're spoilt for choice in Dublin! :D

Porterhouse Temple Bar, Farringtons, The Black Sheep and the Bull and Castle are all good spots for craft beer. There's a few other nice Irish red ales out there too but for me O'Hara's is the best of them.

Also, as mentioned, definitely get the Beoir Finder app. www.tinyurl.com/Beoirfinder

A vote for Howling Gale Ale. I know Bowes in Fleet St have it on tap.

Galway Bay's "Full Sail Pale Ale" is an Irish IPA superior to Metalman's (imo), they're on draught in The Dark Horse Blackrock, Against the Grain on Wexford St, The Black Sheep on Capel St and in The Brew Dock next to Busaras.

Galway Bay also have an excellent milk stout on draught called "Buried at Sea". Superior to all besides O'Hara's Leann Folláin. Again, in my opinion.

Other great IPA's around are Proper Job, the Brew Dog range (almost all good) and the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

the Brewdog range, Sierra Nevada, and 5 barrel pale ale if you can find it all winners in my book.

Duvel another cracker although probably not classified as craft ? but pretty easy to get

You can get the O'Hara's Red for about €1.85 in Tesco. But also a version of it for around the same price in Aldi (O'Sheas). The good thing about the Aldi deal is that they also have stout and an IPA for the same price.

I tried the O'Sheas Red Ale on Saturday and was very impressed.

You'll probably also like 5 am Saint as well so.

@margincall - 5 barrel pale ale is a cracker alright. Odells do a few others as well, available in Brew Dock and Dark Horse for sure, probably their other bars as well.

Any good beer off licence in Dublin, like McHugh's, will have it. It's usually on tap in Against The Grain, The Black Sheep and The Brew Dock, among other pubs.

McSorley's have it at a more reasonable price.

I don't live too far from McHugh's so will give it a visit this weekend. Any other recommendations as to what I should try vis a vis red ale?
