This has turned out to be false -- it's the OP could just be repeating what he read elsewhere, so no action is going to be taken other than this edit and locking the thread - mod.

Half livid at what im reading over on IRN. Apparently wiring in the itg locomotives has been the target of metal thieves. A jeep was used to tear out some of the wiring.
To be honest, it was always something which could happen with them being so close to the road and there being no proper gate to the yard. A secluded spot like the west care railway main would be easy to get into and work away unnoticed during the hours of darkness.
when I went there a while back it baffled me as to why no bit of a palisade gate or railing was put up to prevent access from the road. Given that the alternator sets were tampered with there could be a fair amount of damage done - they're not exactly going to be careful about it like.
C231 was looking fairly badly shook in the photo I seen.

    Why am I not surprised?
It was bound to happen, just a matter of time really, with feck all security, fencing or obstacles.

Bit naive leaving all that gear around and expect no-ones going to help themselves.

I know. Probably the most annoying thing about it was that the locos were in (or very close to being in) good working order.
But being realistic I suppose, it was unlikely that they were ever going to run again anyway. Not in the medium term anyway.

This sort of thing is rampant in britain. I was reading about one in Shropshire where a heritage railway was shaken down for few ton's worth of rail chairs and couple of multiple unit engines.

Closer to home, lets not forget the station roof and buffers being stolen from Downpatrick.

The above reports are wholly untrue.

Can Victor please remove this rubbish.

I note poster can't tell the difference between there and they're. ITG had problems with a similar poet previously.

    Really?

    Well that's a great relief I suppose. :)

I don't know why people make these things out:confused:. I do recall that last year or so there was a particular individual on this forum and another popular Irish railway forum who had their nose out of joint over some actual or perceived slight that happened over something to do with climbing a signal to take a photograph on a railtour. The ensuing backbiting and swipe taking under ficticious pseudonyms form various factions involved lead to fairly heavy handed moderation on that popular forum with a lot of valued innocent members either leaving or being wrongly removed from that particular popular Irish railway scene forum. This sort of thing does no favours for the enthusiast scene.

Either way, it's good to hear that the locomotives are undamaged. However, I still think they are in a poor storage location. Long term storage should really be under cover, security being just one reason.
