Getting rid of a car with dead battery in North Dublin

    Hi all,
I'm the owner of a 2002 VW polo that has been on a steady decline over the past year. It needs a new ECU, the pressure sensor is bypassed, and eventually it started cutting out when I tried to start it - I think it thought there was no petrol - either an ECU issue or the filters need cleaning, I guess.
I haven't had the money to fix it and I can't exactly drive it in this state - and the last straw came when I went to disconnect the battery to see if that would help the cutting out - but the whole thing was dead.
At this point I just want rid of the damn thing, i am too annoyed to fix it, and I'm not sure it's worth the work it'd need.
Any recommendations of someone who would tow it away would be very welcome as I'm sure it'd be good for parts. I'm loath to call the "we buy cars for cash" guys as I'm sure they're dodgy.

Hold it, hold it - shtall the digger there. What engine, what mileage? Who decided the ECU needed changing? What "pressure sensor" are you talking about? Let's not go nuts just yet. I thought all this Celtic Tiger ballacksalagy was finished, there seems to be a lot of people still throwing cars away because they need new wiper blades! ;)

Hold on. it's a 1.2 with about 80K miles on it. My mechanic (decent guy) decided the ECU needed changing cause he spent a solid week driving it, getting error messages, fixing things, getting further messages etc - this is with the VW diagnostic tools. I have no freaking idea what pressure sensor is bypassed, just that one is. EGR valve has already been replaced which was the inital cause of problems.
Are you equating already a couple of hundred euro of parts and repairs and a further probable 500euro to replace ECU and get things running again on a car worth probably a 1.5grand in working order with CHANGING THE WIPER BLADES? Schtall YOUR digger, buddy ;)
I should probably add that public transport is usually more convenient for me day to day, and my partner got a car a couple of weeks ago.
