Looking at this car today http://cars.donedeal.co.uk/for-sale/cars/4984860

Is there anything in particular I should be on the look out for? I've read about the tailgate wiring but otherwise I've not found anything to worry me too much.

and before anyone says it I know the Motor Tax is €1494 a year.

The rear bumper looks to be in ribbons, and the ad doesn't inspire confidence in general. There seem to be a few marks on the FL bumper/wing too?

I would try and verify the millage on it. Most 525Ds have huge millage on them.
Looks like a UK Import maybe with such an usual spec?

Also maybe if you're going to buy a 3.0L and pay 3.0L tax, check out a 530D.

I'm always wary of ad's that have things like "Drives Like The Day It Rolled Off The Factory Floor" and Mint written on it.

Are those 3 series wheels? They look ridiculous haha!

    Style 245, E60 5Series Wheels.

    Wouldn't be my first choice.

Which could suggest that there was a tow bar on there at some stage.

20,000 miles a year - Cork to Dublin once or twice a month, 100kms a day commute.

Spoke to the dealer and he has gotten the bumpers resprayed yesterday apparently. Car was imported in early 09 and had 1 owner in Ireland. Never had a tow bar fitted. I got a motorcheck done which was all clear. Tax was out the end of April.

20k is quite a bit, the tax is atrocious on 3 liters and what makes it worse is, that its only putting out 2.5L bhp... Im currently driving the 2.5 petrol. Would you not consider the 520d?

197bhp is enough power (plus its easily chipped) and the difference is tax is €700 a year over a 520 - which with the spec of the car isn't a lot I think.

My money says the car's a bit rough and the dealer's a bit shady. Let us know how you get on.

Yes but it has six cylinders, which is reason enough to go for one over a 520d. Also, every Tom, Dick and Harry has a bloody 520d, I like the idea of buying something that's a good bit rarer. I'd pay the extra quid in tax so that I could have a much smoother and sweeter sounding six cylinder engine, especially when the E60 520d from September 2007 onwards could easily land you with a €6,000 repair bill for a new timing chain. No E60 diesel with the correct number of cylinders has the timing chain problem that blights the 'Efficient Dynamics' 520d.

Now that's a nice car, even if it is powered by the wrong fuel:D.

Not a 3 Series fan - think they are a bit small inside. Plus I doubt he would take my trade in:)

Seen it recently around town. Nice car and the wheels really suit it.

I can well believe there's a nice car hiding in there somewhere, but it'll need a heavy de-Halfordisation and it'll always have the halogens. :)

Still it does look well cared for, which matters.

To be fair it just needs proper number plates and that M badge removing. I am wondering if the front window tints would pass an NCT though?

Whatever about an NCT, the tints and the wheels would have to go too. I could live with the colour and the spec if the condition was good and it was priced right.

Before anyone says I told you so....... you were so right - car is a POS. Every body panel is dented or scratched, alloys are all very badly kerbed, steering is all over the place...... Too good to be true....:mad::mad:
