Used Wedding Dress

Posting this on behalf of the wife, we got married last September.

She bought an amazing dress costing nealy €2.5k, admittedly a bit much for a one day dress but she looked amazing and the dress was a big deal to her.

The dress got stained, as you'd expect, with some fake tan, mainly under the arms.

She left it to the local dry cleaners, who in my opinion were a disaster, it took nearly 2 months to get back and she paid €100, with the hope of cleaning it up and selling it. It still has slight stains and she is now talking of giving it to a charity shop.

    So my question is what are the chances of still selling it? The dress itself is a;

Pronovias Fresno dress - princess silhouette style , it's ivory and size 8

Would anyone have a recommendation for someone to get the last few small stains out or is it possible to sell as is - she'd be open to any offers (if someone wants to PM me they can).

Is there any outlets/shops that might buy it off her?

I'd really like to get some money back off it if possible.

Thanks in advance for the help.

The problem with dry cleaning is, if it's not done properly then it can actually make a stain worse as it 'sets' the stain in with the heat. The shop I bought mine from actually advised against dry cleaning and instead, I laid the dress in a bath of luke warm water with non-bio washing powder. Left if to soak for a few hours and then gently worked the stains out with a soft cloth (nothing rough as it will pile the fabric). There was muck at the bottom of the train and a bit of staining under the armpits and it all came out and the dress looked like new.

I don't know if you think it might be worth taking a chance on doing this and see if it works?

Otherwise, maybe have a look on ebay and see what kind of price dresses are going for that are slightly soiled? Then use that as a guide and list it on ebay and the other wedding forums (but be honest about the stains otherwise it will only lead to a dispute if a buyer gets it and didn't know about the stains).

I don't know of any shops that would buy it. I think ebay or one of the bridal forums would be your best bet to sell it.

There is a shop called 'Memories Bridal Boutique' in Dublin I think, that buys and sells second hand wedding dresses.

Maybe talk to them about it?

    Preloved is also good.

I agree with Little_Ted, dry-cleaning really has to be done right the first time. It's much more difficult to get stains out that have been treated already in some way.
Try a reputable one and see if there's something they'd recommend trying or if there's anything they could do for you.
Ebay or Adverts.ie are good for selling stuff, also try the weddingsonline.ie forum for buy and sell.
