    Hi,

Is it possible to upgrade the hard drive in the dvr box? I was looking to do it myself and I was wondering if a straight swap for a 1TB WD Green would do the trick, or does it require some more sophisticated operation ?

    Thanks

The box remains the property of UPC. It's against the terms of your contract to modify the equipment.

    That was not my question.

To my knowledge it wouldn't be allowed to give you advice on doing it.

Then why bother replying given that you are not a mod? He's not asking for legal advice.

OP, I wouldn't risk it. There's most likely a bootable OS partition on the HDD so swapping in a new one would probably render the box useless.

Yes, this is possible. One of my old HD boxes went bogey a while back on a Friday before a bank holiday (yes they are especially programmed to do this at times like this :D:p). Anyhow I wanted to record a few bits to watch over the weekend so I put in a spare WD 1tb drive temporarily. It worked ok but seemed to be a bit slower at times. There was some silver security label thing on it that had to cut obviously but I just put the original drive back in and got them to swap it out a few days later. But as others have said you might be risking getting charged for something if they knew you had done this.
