I know - this isn't a good rating at all. Went to hygienist today and this is the verdit. Gum area around crowns are v inflamed unfortunately if I am honest due to poor cleaning as I had an incident a few years when flossing a crown came out and now. I have a mental block about cleaning them well. Rest if teeth are perfectly clean with good pockets. It's purely an issue with the crowns

I am now on an aggressive cleaning regime to help them come back. Meeting hygienist in three weeks ago to assess progress and get another good cleaning before going to the periodontist.

My question is what are the chances that the pockets will decrease in inflammation. Hygienist says she is optimist? :eek:what do ye experts think. I know it's hard to tell without seeing the case

Thanks for your help in advance

Have the crowns been X-rays to check the fit, 5 times out of 10 localized pocketing around crowns is due to marginal gaps, if there are gaps the pockets will never resolve. If it is purely a hygiene thing then resolution is very possible, or you can have pocket elimination surgery.

Probing a 5 is not all that bad...its not great mind you....but not a disaster.

Thanks Fitzgeme for the reply. Pocket elimination surgery sounds horrific. What does that involve - I like details !!!

I do think it is a hygiene issue as last time about 18 months ago the pockets were a two. Fit not an issue in that case I reckon.

So good cleaning with tee pees etc should help - right ??.....

where is the crown? a pocket of 5mm with good cleaning should be able to recede healthily away from the margin of the crown, so it may only be an issue if it affects the appearance.

Crown is in front. Incisor and one front tooth - I am being v v diligent with cleaning. Positively obsessed in fact. I do have a very bad under active thyroid - on 200mg el thyroxine daily - have had trouble in past with bleeding gums because to it so wondering could this be a contributor ?

    Hi there
What a difference a day makes - after one day of fairly good brushing, use of tee pees and flossing, bleeding has reduced. Still there but not as bad as yesterday. Can I ask for advice?

    - when using the tee pees I use these before I do main brushing- is that correct or does it matter?

    - when using the tee pees I dip them into a bit of tooth paste first - is this ok?

    - should I change to a new tee pee daily - thinking of bacterial buildup on the wire and brush which won't help the cause

    - a soft brush is more recommended I guess - I currently have a firm one

    - I floss before the main brushing and after the tee pees - does it really matter?

    Thanks in advance everyone

sounds like a pretty good regimen.

the main purpose of the cleaning is to break down the biofilm of bacteria causing the disease which can only be done mechanically. mouthwash just doesn't do it well at all. the stiffness of the brush doesn't really matter as long as it gets in there.

Had my return visit to the hygienist today and the good news was she was delighted "like looking into a different mouth" she said. All puffiness is nearly gone now. Gums looking more pinky than red. Hardly no bleeding

On the crowns I have being able to go up to a blue tee pee brush and even today she tired a yellow and it wasn't too uncomfortable. Will give it a shot in next few days again

Good news also are pockets have reduced down to a 4 so pleased. I forgot to ask what is the expected level ? Can someone let me know please

Am going to continue my regime for a few more weeks then go to the period to assess bone structure etc as I am worried about that

I have progressed onto the yellow sizes tee pee today around the crowns and on a lot of the other teeth. I am delighted. Considering a few weeks I could barely get a red t p in around the crowns without a bloodbath. This is great. AND no blood either

The gum redness has really reduced down too. No puffiness at all. I am so pleased

What are the normal probe levels. Mine were five and reduced down to four last week. Wondering what are the chances they have got even better ? Want to be in best possible condition before the periodontist visit which I still need to plan. Want to take as much time as possible as she will kill me if the pockets are bad.
