Alba Saorview PVR Ready-NO Freeview?

A mate bought an Alba Saorview PVR Ready b660 box today and where we live you get most Freeview channels too but we cant get ANY freeview with this box but can with a freeview box. Are thes Alba boxes made JUST to give you saorview?

Haven't heard of that problem with a Saorview box.

I think some cheap Freeview HD boxes make you choose UK or Ireland & then refuse to tune the other network's channels.

Did he have the Freeview box connected to the same aerial point?

This box has country options, but NO UK -other countries like Poland Italy,etc.
And yes we tried the Freeview box with same aerial connection. He bought the box in Argos, and said the saleperson told him it would only bring in 8 channels, but he honestly thought she meant 8 Irish channels and whatever else is a bonus...if anyone has any way around this would love to hear...thanks

Yes, channels go from 8 to the Irish radio stations on 200s and the back to RTE1 on channel 1...gonna get my mate to bring it back and even look for a credit note because its useless without the UK channels...Imagine only having Irish channels....lol...drive you to drink...:D

Most people need a Satellite Dish and Satellite Receiver to get more than Irish channels.

I've put 4 of these in for friends/family in N East and all receive both FV and SV.
I did notice though that I needed to rescan a few times to get the FV channels, even though we are in a v strong reception area for FV.

Not where I am Watty-have perfect reception of Freeview (less break-up than Saorview too...lol) in my area...problem seems to be the box....cheers anyway

Less breakup? Hardly perfect reception, or even good. I could say with almost 100% certainty that I've seen no breakup on Freeview since switchover. Even the impulse interference (central heating switches, next door's lawnmower etc.) that would have upset it has zero visible effect now.

Digital reception has a sharp "Cliff". If your signal is marginal (i.e. better aerial needed) then some boxes will work and some won't, even of the same model.

You should have NO pixellation, never mind breakup or intermittent freezing or else your aerials are not good enough for your location.

I have no pixelation or break up ever on Saorview and only Satellite reception issues if the rain is so heavy that it goes so dark that the street lights start turning on.

Perfect Reception means NEVER "breaks up" and NO coarseness or pixelation on movement.
