Hi, so I hope to do primary school teaching in either St.Pats or CICE in Dublin and I am just wondering...should I book accommodation now? How much does it cost to book a place in their student rooms?

I am a bit reluctant to in case I don't get enough points to go to the college or if I change my mind, money down the drain (think of the recession guys!) :(

Any help would be luverly! :)

    It would seem premature.

Some places with on-site accommodation will allow you to add you name to the list, presumably for free or at low cost.

You can definitely put your name down for student accommodation already as they fill up fairly quickly. I don't think they charge anything to reserve your spot or maybe just a deposit which is fully refundable should you not get your points or decide to go elsewhere.

    Hi Aisling,

Honestly, start looking now, because come august, everyone and their mother (literally) will be calling up places looking for accommodation. At least now you have a fighting chance.

As for student accommodation, I know for trinity halls, they have about 2000+ applicants for 1000 places. Other places cost a great deal of cash too, some upwards of 6-700 a month if you are not sharing a room with someone.

If you get accommodation now, make sure you clear it with the Landlord to sublet it before you sign any lease, otherwise that is definitely money down the drain. I got my apartment in May last year and I have successfully subleased it for 2 full summers at and above market rates.

If you would like to ask more questions send me an inbox message and I'll try to help as much as I can

Hi Aisling, I know for Pat's at least the on-campus accommodation isn't open for booking until after CAO offers. Once you've expressed interest, it's allocated on a lottery basis. See their information leaflet from 2012/2013 and website for more info.
