Hi there, I have a problem with my wisdom teeth, I am getting them out in september but in the mean time I am stuck with them! My top 2 have almost fully erupted and aren't that painful but my bottom ones are impacted. One is partially erupted and gives me the odd twang of pain but I just swish salt water around it to prevent infection but the other one isn't erupted at all and the tooth in front of it is extremely painful, as in I can't eat at that side of my mouth. I figure it must be right in under that tooth since it's not erupting! Painkillers aren't working for it :( is there anything I can do while waiting for them to come out? I had a dental impression taken this morning for a splint and since then I have just been in so much agony!

Due to work, college, exams etc the surgeon said it would be better wait to have them done, but if things got worse in the meantime to ring up anytime and he will pop them out. But would obviously prefer to wait until I am fully free!

It really depends on why they are causing problems....
If decayed, only a temporary filling/ first stage root canal or extraction will sort it out
If locally infected because of food/plaque accumulation, then intensive cleaning with warm salt water and corsodyl with help, if a spreading infection- antibiotics may be needed...

Are you sure most of your pain is not jaw joint or muscle related?? It's unusual for fully unerupted teeth to cause pain... Is this why you're having a splint....?

The pain is worst when I bite down, like clench my teeth together (well I can't actually make my teeth meet anymore due to the pain) and the exact point of pain is at the back half of my 4th molar, so where I would imagine an impacted wisdom tooth is pressing upon it. I am having the splint as my teeth chatter due to medication side effects and although there is no sign of damage at the moment she just wants to make sure it won't cause any harm in future. The fully erupted ones aren't that painful anymore, just the odd time, it's the one that has made absolutely no appearance that is causing this agony. I will be going back to the dentist either Friday or Monday to get the splint so will mention it to her then to make sure there is no infection or anything!
