SAGE 50 Year End question

I have just recently completed the year end procedure for a small company with a year end 31/12/12 on SAGE 50 Ver 12. I had never done this before, only observed the procedure last year, and followed the instructions of the previous bookkeeper. The day after I completed the year end I remembered something about changing the program date to the same as the year end date prior to year end procedure so I checked the previous bookkeepers list but there was no mention of this. When I checked SAGE 50’s help it was one of the first things mentioned. I am just wondering if I completed the year end with the program date at 02/05/13 will this be a problem going forward? Why does the program date have to be the same as the year end date? I have a backup from prior to the year end if I need to re-do the whole process but it would be great if I didn’t!

    Thanks

I presume you mean the program date as the current date ?
Was the program date 02/03/13 and the year end date 31/12/12 ?
If so then your fine as have done the same as you numerous times and never had a problem

Changing the programme date to the last day of the financial year you are closing off is very important. When the programme is running the year end process, journals will be posted by the system and it will use whatever date the default date is set to.

Year end journals have to be dated with the last day of the year otherwise they will be posted with a date that will put them in the current year and won’t be treated as brought forward balances. If you check the date of the Ledger Year End journals and if they have a date other than the 31/12/12 then you may need to restore a backup from before the year end and start again. if restoring a back up is not possible you may have to reverse the Ledger Year End journals and re-post them using the correct date of 31/12/12

If you have a support contract for your Sage 50 you could call or email the support team for help and advice on this.
