Tai Chi is evil -demonic deception in the modern world

I can't believe I forgot to post this here - I went to a talk a short while ago in Maynooth given by Fr. Jeremy Davies (exorcist). He was hosted by the John Paul II Theological Society, and it was free to attend (best free entertainment I've had in a while!).

The gist of the talk was that demonic possession was the source of all evil in the world, and that opening up and developing the "psychic", as explicitly forbidden in the bible, is what was opening people up to demonic possession. Those poor souls were then being stricken and having their lives ruined by things like depression and alcoholism, and murder. Yes, murder.

I tweeted from the event, and afterwards, gathered it all into storify. Some of you might enjoy it :)

Western liberals have infiltrated the ranks of elderly Asian people (some of whom I suspect are also liberals) doing Tai Chi in the parks. I seen this with mine own eyes in Sydney, London, NY and L.A.

One minute it's slowly moving according to some demonic foreign choreography the next it's gay marriaging and demanding an abortion and mocha latte to go. It's only a matter of time before it happens here - you mark my words!

Finally an answer the old joke

What to Women, Poets and Animals all have in common...
it's "low" thought - of course!

Oh Fr. Jeremy Davies, it's all in the delivery.

As a NUI Maynooth student, I should have drawn devil horns on his head just for irony's sake. :pac:

Ha, ha, ha, ha, brilliant ... an exorcist banging on about psychics, magic, ouija boards, etc. Surely he should be delighted that these dark arts are keeping him in business!

    Oh, and clearly you're screwed "Zen"buffy! ;)

But we'd all know it wasn't really you... it was obviously that pesky demon possessing you.

Would have thought an exorcist would have been quite excited to have Buffy in his crowd!

What - private enterprise shouldering in on his action? I think not!

If he seriously believes that yoga is a Satanic practice, he should have a word with his own church. They've been letting people use parish halls and centres for yoga for years now, there are even many priests practising yoga. What a fear-filled individual he must be!

Seperating fact from fiction, Fr. Jeremy Davies will address the Sociey on the theology of Demonic Possession, Exorcism and links with so-called New Age practises.

    Actual real Catholics or 'Catlicks'?

I suppose when most of the 'real' catholics on boards are just Actor sock-puppets, it's an easy thing to miss.

I met a real Catholic once...didn't like him.

I was a real Catholic once. Hated myself. Actually, I still hate that guy, because he was a close-minded self-loathing bell-end. Atheist me is much more interesting.

I think I mentioned it somewhere in the Storify, but he did actually complain about parish halls and retreat centres being used for yoga and tai chi and such. He said that sometimes when he saw people giving talks, he'd look up their info, and they'd be the same people teaching tai chi, so that was just as bad.

At the end, during questions, one woman stood up and said she ended up going to a monastery (I think) for a retreat because so many retreat centres that she tried were all full of these evil yoga people.

Wondering, OP, if most people there were buying this stuff, or were just along for the ride like your good self?

The Greeks have this all figured out. Seems an Orthodox monk can resist anything except temptation.

    Prohibition on entry for women

There is a prohibition on entry for women, called avaton (Άβατον) in Greek, to make living in celibacy easier for those who have chosen to do so. Monks feel that the presence of women alters the social dynamics of the community and therefore slows their path towards spiritual enlightenment.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

I'd love to visit Mount Athos -- most descriptions I've read suggest it's like travelling back to some bizarre time between around 1000 and perhaps 1200, with attitudes to match. The no-women thing is just one of many strange practices there.

BTW, most female animals are banned too. Though I believe they permit (female) chickens there since they lay the eggs the monks need to make the varnish for their icons. And, of all things, they also permit female, er, pussies, uh, pussy cats I mean.

For anybody interested in Mount Athos, William Dalrymple's book From the Holy Mountain is required reading. Actually, it's such an outstanding book, it should be required reading anyway:

It was hard to tell - there were a few people who were definitely there just to disagree, and some of them did so during the Q&A, but at the very least, the woman who stood up and complained that she couldn't find an untainted retreat centre seemed pretty genuine.

That said, I know that when I phrased my question, I did so in a believing (or neutral) way, because I was hoping to get more info out of him and didn't see that the confrontation tactic was working for others, so it's possible she was doing the same thing (though I didn't think that she was).

I don't know if the believers there were on board with everything that he said, but it wasn't a case that the whole room was completely disagreeing with him. It was a really bizarre mix of dog collars and atheists!

When I saw the title of this thread I just could not believe my eyes...that some idiot priest could imbue a MARTIAL ART (Taijiquan also written Tai Chi or Tai Chi Chuan) with being capable of harbouring 'demons' or some such!!!

It's a fighting system..roughly 200 years old and originated in Chen village in China. The term Taijiquan means 'Great Ultimate Fist'. There is nothing mystical about it..it is a true and efficient fighting system when used correctly. It has the added bonus of being very good for your health and especially the elderly where it has been shown to prevent falls.

I have been training in martial arts now for 46 years, the last 17 of which has been purely in Yang Style Taijiquan and I think I can on that basis vouch for the art as being nothing like what that priest says it is. I suspect he doesn't even know what the name of the art means or has bothered to research it fully, or dare I say it, give it a go.

I feel sorry for the poor fools who just listened and believed...they are missing out on so much in terms of health and just the fun of training in it.

rant over....although I do have more in reserve!!
