Just to follow on from other threads about cars aging well and all that. New cars that really aren't new cars at all. My all time favourite is the Mercedes "CLC"

    thumb-mercedes-clc-1.jpg

which is a facelfit of the cl203 Sport Coupe from 2001.

Also Golf MkIV Convertible which is really a MkII

Saab and Volvo were good at that also never really changing much other then a slightly different light or grove in the bumper.

    Not exactly facelifting,

    But, imo,

The new Audi range are like feckin russian dolls, same exact thing, but each one is just a little smaller than the last..

The 911 is the exact opposite of the 'cynical facelift' theme. They totally change most underlying aspects of the car, but keep to an evolutionary look. Similarly audi aren't generally in the business of cynical facelifts either.

The cynical facelift is changing nothing but the 'skin' to fool people into thinking it's a newer better car.

    Cinquecento vs Seicento

It's literally the same car, with different name, and slight bodywork facelift.
Even exactly the same engines were used, with exception that they dropped 704cc in Seicento.

Ford Mondeo MkII which was really just a facelifted MkI.
Current VW Passat B7 which is just a facelifted B6.
VW Golf MkVI which was just a facelifted MkV with a cheaper suspension setup.
Seat Exeo which was just a rehashed B6/B7 Audi A4.

    A Mk3 actually (there never was a Mk2 convertible), but I get what you're saying. :)

    City Rover

In reality it was a rebadged Tata Indica.

Not exactly fair. They managed to drastically improve the driving experience when they carried out the face lift.

That's because is wasn't a face lift but an all new car.

Person gets face lift, same person underneath, slightly improved face - get it?
