Use of spacer with SRAM 9 Speed Cassette (PG950)

Hello,

I got a pair of Fulcrum 5 wheels with Shimano 8/9/10/11 hub.

I am attaching an SRAM 9 speed cassette PG950 (11-26).

There is a spacer that came with the wheels, and with the spacer packaging it says to use it with Shimano /SRAM 9 or 10 speed cassettes.

In the wheel instructions it says spacer only required for 10s cassettes.

It seems to fit either way. There was no spacer on previous wheel with this cassette.

Anyone know if I should use the spacer or not? What will happen if I do it wrong?

No, you don't use the spacer for 9 speed cassettes, it is for the narrower 10 speed cassettes.

@needmoregears. Good article. Explains the spacer that came on my mavic wheels with 10 speed ultegra cassette that I did not need / get on my hope hoops with 10 speed tiagra.............Plus the notches in both free hubs.
