Life after the Inns

    Hi Guys

I'm in my final weeks of the degree at the inns and looking forward to the deviling process in October. As of yet, I haven't managed to secure a devil but hopefully will do so during the summer

I realise that the money will be quite tight for the first couple particularly in the first two years and I'm just wondering from those of you who have deviled in the last 2-3 years how you managed to keep the bills paid. I have a part time job at the moment (minimum wage) and get money off my parents to pay my rent which is 550 per month in Dublin 7. I don't really want to live of my parents so is there any chance of payment from the master next year? Or how do you keep costs to a minimum in terms of Rent and utility bills? Cheers

Congradulations and good luck in the exams (if any).

A master you mean (it has happened before apparently that a newly qualified barrister asked the bar council to assign him a devil)!

Hang on to the part time job because they are fairly thin on the ground at the moment. Look out for lecturing/tutoring/writing articles opportunities as well.

Not directly and don't expect it. If you get a few cases sent your own way that you can bill for or a few pound in the fist count yourself lucky.

Move somewhere cheaper but further out and cycle in to work, charge your phone and use Internet in work not at home, use nightsaver electricity so do your washing and dishwasher at night. Shop in lidl/aldi, avail of free lunches from your master.
