Away Scores / Golfnet question

Hey guys just a query really as somebody who doesn't play away golf very often.

Anyway I was just browsing by golfnet there a moment ago and noticed that in an open back in October last year where I had a complete mare I was never credited with .1 back. (This is the only open Ive played in a club other than my own)

Now I don't mind tbh as my aim is to get lower not higher :) but just wondering why I never got it ?

I know there's a sheet in my club to enter away scores but I assumed that was just to be used when you had done a score worthy of a cut which of course you would be applying to yourself before the adjustment became official, but I assumed all away scores were downloaded by your own club and eventually they would show on your handicap ?

Also as I look at my golfnet on the green bar I see my name, handicap, playing club and then it says Away Records No

Also if I click the Away Records button nothing shows up at all

Is there something wrong with my golfnet setup, or whats going on. Like I said the .1 doesn't bother me as im trying to get lower anyway but at the same time I'd like thigs to accurately reflect by playing ability.

It might have been a competition that was non-qualifying or that was reductions only, no .1's back?

Thanks I never knew that could be the case. It was 18 holes off the back pegs in the Heritage on a Monday.

I would have thought that all 18 hole open competitions would be qualifying unless placing etc was in play. If I check type it says the following QRS.

QRS - Qualifying Reduction Scores ?

QRS = Qualifying Reduction Only Stableford. So no 0.1's.

Thanks. Good to know for future. Didn't realise that clubs could prevent .1's being given out.

Understand the logic of it I guess they don't want a bunch of bandits showing up playing crap and tending to their handicap I guess, but seems like a case of using a sledgehammer to put in a nail.

It's not something that the club decides. It's based on the scoring. Some of our Medals in tough conditions are reductions only but that's determined after play... It's determined automatically based on the actual scoring.

"Under some circumstances (when few nett scores in a competition are close to the Standard Scratch Score of the course or better) the Competition Scratch Score will be identified as "Reductions Only". Here, no increases of 0.1 may be applied to a handicap (although anyone returning a Nett Differential below zero will still have his handicap reduced!)."

I'm learning a wealth of information here thanks :) Makes sense as conditions were ridiculously difficult. CSS was 77 or 31 points for the day.

I guess the fact I got 27 points meant perhaps I wasn't as crap I as first thought :D:D

Was talking to my handicap secretary at the weekend. Apparently the GUi had some sort of issue with their central processing system and as a result all cuts/.1's are in various states of disarray.

think to yourself what happened with Ulster Bank last year, only smaller and less painful on your bank account :)

Thanks lads mine is the same all muddled up scores on it just like my golf game at the moment. May just play off 6 tomorrow so.

You have to cut yourself regardless of weather it is updated but you can't add .1's to your handicap yourself if that's what your thinking of doing.

quick question in relation to this.

Much as it kills me I had an awful round out in Lucan during the week in a qualifying competition. I'll be getting 0.1 back, and my handicap on HowDidIDo has updated to reflect this (gone from 11.4 - 11.5). The score is up on golf net, but the handicap adjustment has not come through.

Just curious, when I go out this weekend, if its not updated I'll play the comp off the lower handicap, ie 11. If, in the next week the adjustment then goes through, will my competition result be amended to reflect this?

For example, say I went out & shot 36 points off 11, then the adjustment comes through, so I would have shot 37 off 12, would I get a 0.2 cut retrospectively, or is it irrelevant?

play off the lower handicap, you can only adjust your handicap downwards yourself.

Sure cheers, i'll play off whatever pops up on screen when I swipe in. Definitely wouldn't make a personal up revision

Just curious as to whether or not there is a retrospective adjustment made if there is a delay in the change coming through on golfnet, as a general question?

Think it was Benicetomonty take had a similar situation a few weeks back, no retrospective adjustments are made, but I think that's daft.
It'd be less complicated than the ESR to bring in.

Retrospective adjustment to your score for handicap purposes?
Problem with that is that then you open the can of worms of "well actually I should have won that comp if my handicap was up to date, wheres my prize?"...

Ah, the 10 seconds of thought that went into my solution is exposed... You're right there Ted

Guys, had a -3 QSH Qualifying Stableford Home on Golfnet from an open yesterday but it was an away course.
My handicap does not seem to have been adjusted.
    Any thoughts?

Ive seen this before. Its probably down to the handicap secretary not setting up the competition as an open competition. Are you seeing the score on your handicap sheet or is it still in the away scores section? If its still in the away scores section then it wont update your handicap until your handicap secretary next updates the system in your club.

Still in the Away Score section, I'll give them a few days and then give them a call to update.

Played an open comp 3 weeks ago and was 4 better than CSS, despite writing to the club in question three times there is still no sign of the score on golfnet either the away score section or in the main handicap section....my own club hasn't received the card by snail mail either although i have notified them...surely the system breaks down if clubs aren't passing back scores, if I had another score in the meantime (flying pigs and all that) you could be looking at a handicap up two shots out of date and throw in the odd 0.1...... My point being I'm aware that the player is responsible for reporting on their own handicap and their home club is responsible for managing it...but if the information is not going up in time should their not be an option for the player to submit a score on golfnet (for reductions only) subject to verification by the home club?

if it was known to be better than css you cut yourself, you don't need to wait.
