Lawn from hell

    Hi all

My wife and I moved into our first home not so long ago. Aside from the usual tasks that you have to deal with in any new home there is one we have been avoiding.... the garden. Having lived in rented accommodation most of my life I have literally never done an ounce of gardening. To make matters worse the garden that we have inherited was home to renters for this past five years and is in a shocking state. So, the first thing I want to tackle is the lawn. It is basically covered in dandelions and daisy's, as well as other weed like formations, and even some dense mossy like matter. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can start to get these critters under control? I have read some methods online but these are for individual offenders, I am facing an army. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thx
