Have a dairy cow fit to kill injured and can't get up, she got no drugs. Anyone know of factory operating on farm slaughter or had an animal slaughtered on farm? Have rang Ard Na Ri Meats, said fella operating service prob would'nt come to wexford unless had another animal in the area, and would ring me back if he was interested. Replies greatly appreciated.

We're fairly south east here too. The uncle had a more or less fit bull broke a leg about 2 years ago same story the guy doing on farm slaughtering is in Meath I think and he wouldn't travel down this far for one. I think the uncle got a factory/abbatoir in the Meath area to take the bull. There was a bit of toing and froing with vet certs before he could go.

if its the same guy i know in meath dont bother, very hard to get paid and also you need a vet cert , in the long run knackery worked out cheaper for me

    Ring your knacker

A small local abattoir might do it as a favour but you will have to pay and find a home for the meat. Like others have said, vet certs are needed, and the sooner the better. A broken leg would have been easier.

I know a dealer in Wicklow who would give you small money for her, better than a bill from the knacker, I'll dig his number out later for ya and pm it on.

You would have to wonder what strokes that guy must be pulling. there is no way any casualty will be killed in any of the meat factories I deal with, and rightly so

BTW have you farm multi-peril insurance? Some of those policies cover accidents like this.

I've just read this, as a townie I'm wondering is it possible for an animal like this to be slaughtered, butchered, and consumed by the owner.

    No.

Has to be slaughtered by licensed person. This will mean that they will have dep of health approved slaughter and meat prep facilities as well as approved offal disposal facilities.

I seen worse walk in anyway! They had been arranged as injured ahead and brought straight to kill line rather than up the chute and pens though.

I would say she is. I brought 4 cows to the factory yesterday for a neighbour. 2 were lame and a lot worse than she is. One was lame one on the off fore and the lame near hind. I brought them in the trailer which was well bedded.
No issues with them and price was not cut although they were JEx culls.

More than likely but the ones I seen were bad cases. If she were mine I'd send her in as normal.
