    Hi all,

Posting this on behalf of a friend, so hope it's ok with the Mods.

I've done this charity cycle for the last two years and hope to be there again on the 25th May.

Friendly bunch in the Lions Club so please spread the word for a good turnout.

Hi everyone. Here is our route around Meath for this Saturdays Lions Club Charity Challenge. Registration opens at 9.30am in Ashbourne GAA. Loads of parking and changing rooms with shower facilities. Starting out at approx 10am to Slane. Turn Left in Slane Village for Slane Castle (this is the first pit stop) . Then take the right hand turn opposite Slane Castle and then go left for Kells. On route to Kells you will come to a staggered Cross roads that will require you to go right and immediately left for Kells. On reaching Kells you go left for Navan. Continue on the main road right through Navan heading for Dunshaughlin. On reaching Dunshaughlin, follow signs for Ratath. Go straight through Ratoath Village to Ashbourne. I will also have print outs of the Google map with me too on Saturday. Looking forward to seeing you then. Entrance fee is €25 and Tea and Sambos and facilities in the GAA afterwards. Many thanks again Ian

Thanks for the info on this cycle. I am working (again) this weekend so will miss it - shame as most of these roads are my training roads I use. Is this on every year? If around I would definatly do it next time.

Hi Yes we hold this Cycle Challenge at least once very year. Last year we actually went out twice so I look forward to seeing you at our next outing. It's fab training ground you use...beautiful countryside and world class views. Love it. Best wishes Ian

I'll be riding over from Maynooth via Dunboyne for this, if anyone wants to join up.

I am fearful that this would be one spin too many (Mick Byrne on Sunday) - sorry to miss it.

I would like to do this also. I will cycle from Rush out to Ashbourne prior to the event but afterwards was wondering if anybody would have space to fit an extra body and bike with them heading towards the city center after asa lift would be much appreciated. I can get the train back home from town. Might be too tired to cycle home to Rush after

Tempted to do this, but wondering what the pace/abilities will be like. The distance isn't an issue, but don't want to be paddy las and holding up the show! :)

Go for it. You will not be last. There's always the biggest mix in abilities in events like this, and little gangs of similar abilities form and help each other along. I'll be riding for Team Skeleton as usual, wave as you pass me!

If I can organise a lift I'll head along :)

Think the only people I'd be passing will be going the opposite direction!

    Hi Billy
We will arrange a lift for you for sure and thanks again for your support :-) IAn

Dont worry, it caters for all speeds and support is there too to get everyone over the line. I will have the Lions Mini bus too with Bananas and Water (and 2 x Red Cross Personnel God forbid we need them). Was going to arrange first "pit-stop" close to Slane Castle Gates....... looks like the God is joining us too because forecast is Sunny 16 degrees tomorrow so dont forget the sunblock everyone.

Follow me, I'm right behind you !!!!!!!!!!

Myself and my wife would love to do this cycle. We are going to be under pressure for time though as we are going to the rugby in the RDS tomorrow afternoon. What time roughly do you expect to be back in Ashbourne ?

Hi. Delighted you can join us. Ok if you are under time pressure, there are a couple of options as there are some other cyclists in the same boat.. The registration opens at 9.30. Option 1 The 100km will leave at 10am, so average speed 22km / hour will take approx 5 hours I guess. Option 2 is there are some cyclists under time pressure and will head out the same road but loop back via Skryne and Dunshaughlin and do a 45km instead in about 2 hours. This would give you tons of time as there are at least 5 Cyslists have to do the shorter route. (There is a 30km route at 2pm but thats too late for you) Hope that helps. MAny thanks again Ian

Nice spin to-day and a great bunch of guys, not a huge turnout but it made for a nice friendly cycle, bumped into RP and Jimm and tagged along with Jimm for the second half of the cycle, the organisers even sorted out the great weather as well. :)

Many many thanks to all the Board.ie Members for your support today with the Lions Club Challenge Cycle in Ashbourne. What glorious weather. I hope you all enjoyed the day. Best regards and many thanks again from all in the Lions Club... Ian

Fantastic day out in beautiful Co Meath. Thanks to all in the Lions Club for organising. Plenty of bananas, water and great sambos at the end. Had 2 of the nicest pints of Guinness in the clubhouse also. Nice to meet rp and vektarman (you'll have to post up some photos of that blingy machine vm). Sorry to Tommy (Kilkenny Boardsie) for nearly taking us both down. He said something to me, I leaned over to hear and couldn't straighten up again. :o Went slightly off course in Dunshaughlin and had to double back to the junction I should have taken. Ian, make sure to invest in a can of yellow spray paint and spray arrows on the road next year. :D;) Will definitely be back for the next one.

Thanks Jimmy for all your support. Hope the Pints of Guinness helped to shorten your 30km journey home. ... will paint the roads next time for sure..

Glad to hear everyone had a good day out. My lift fell through in the end, but if there's another cycle later in the year I'll put more organisation into getting to it!

Gotta echo what has been said above: a great bunch on the ride, plus fantastic weather and scenery. Definitely do it again!
