Hi i'm currently a student in 6th year living in Cork and I'm trying to decided where to go to College. I've been living in Cork for the last 17 years and have Business Information Sytems down as my 1st choice in UCC, but I really want to do a similar course in Dublin. Is there any current students that are currently studying in Dublin that could recommend whether to go Dublin or Stay in Cork? I just really want a new experience and many people have told me Dublin is streets ahead of Cork in terms of Social Life and student experience! Would really appreciate any feedback..cheers!! :)

I have absolutely no feedback for you, but I think the on campus student life is a truly unique experience that I missed out on because I live at home. A part of me will always be annoyed I missed it.

But tbh, someone who lives on campus will probably post right now saying I am wrong.

I agree with the above poster, but I've met a lot of people who live at home sound really naive when get to their late 20s. I had one person ask me how do you rent a house once. Hes nearly 30.
    But its cheaper at least.

Hi Miller_steww, I'm also a Corkman finishing up my second year up here - I had to come to Dublin because of the course I wanted, and honestly, moving away from home was the best decision I ever made as terms growing up and getting a new experience, social scene is unreal up here on and off campus, and I got very lucky as terms the people in my course as well. Course is really tough, but can't put a price on the college experience, and I'm definitely much more independent and streetwise than I was leaving school.

All that said, you may want to decide based on what course you really want to do - that BIS course in Cork is very highly-rated, and there isn't an equivalent in UCD as far as I know (maybe a specialisation through General Entry Commerce? I don't know). Also, it's bound to be much more affordable living at home as well?

Cheers for the reply man really aprreciate the feedback from a current student :D Only thing I don't wanna do is stay at home cause I wouldn't be living with people my age and having the laugh..i can't get accomodation cause my house is like 10 minutes from the UCC campus so there would be no point. In relation to Dublin did you live on campus the first year or get a apartment/house with people you know? And is it easy to make friends cause I'd be going up on my own yanno haha I'm involved in Sport a lot so that's gonna help a lot..would you recommend living with other people I know going up there aswell or live on campus?

heya depends on the college, ucc is a fantastic college which all my family studied in and they loved cork i went to ucd and i think i would of enjoyed cork more (aswell as its nearer to home for me) Dublin is soo big and the social life is good but theres apparantly so much banter to be had in ucc college. I dont think u should choose where to go to based on social scene though because u make ur own banter where ever u go. Depends on u as a person too if u think ud prefer to live away from home for 4 years its up to u.

I went to UCD but I have a good few friends in UCC. Social scene and craic seemed on par and I never heard of one being better than the other. Think it comes down to what you want yourself and the course you want to pursue. Its entirely possible to grow up living at home.

I went to college in Cork for a year. Dublin is a big difference. TBH Perferred Cork as a city but perferred UCD as a college.

Try Dublin - if it does not work out transfer back to Cork in 2nd year. However, in order to this you will need to pick comparable courses.

One if my lads did their undergrad in Cork and absolutely loved it. They are now doing a postgrad in UCD and are glad they started in a "smaller" college as they feel better prepared for the sheer size of Dublin - includes Campus, City Etc.

Another started in Dublin last September and dropped out after two weeks(too big) and is planning on going to Cork this year on the advice of his older sibling!
