Renualt card info available to crooks?

Greetings all, I have a Renault 2011 Grand Scenic...just had my key card stolen along with my house key...and the house key of my mother-in-law. Sounds like the start of a promising joke, but serious question: Can a crook find out where I live through the electronic card key registration information? I don't want to change my house locks (and hers as well) because of this loss. Thank you.

If your house keys are stolen and someone robs you house using that key, without you taking reasonable steps to avoid it, you may invalidate your house insurance. I'd check your policy as I have seen a clause to that effect. I'd change the locks its a 10 or so minute job and would be in my opinion foolish not to.

It's not exactly a big job to change the lock. If its a standard lock you can just take out the barrel and put in a new one. The barrels are not that expensive either.

Despite what a lot of people think, the Renault Card is just a key like any other modern car key. It's not some magical device. It's flat and doesn't have the blade sticking out to insert in the ignition and start like a traditional key, that's the only difference.

Many thanks for the responses! Agreed on the consequential insurance risk for my home b/c of key theft. Will change the lock cylinders...and as wonderful as my mother-in-law can be at times, I might just forget to give her a new key...opportunity knocks...wink.png
