    Hi All,

Does a HD Saorview/Satellite PVR combi box exist on the market? Or what box would be best to use with an external hdd.

Its for the parents, they just got rid of sky, but need the skybox for bbc, etc and then the saorview for rte, etc. My mother wants to record, etc also.

So just looking for the most straightforward receiver with all the above...or am I hoping too much..

    Thanks

Most entry level combos use external HDD . Choice of Walker, Ferguson and many others I'm sure other guys here have experience of.

Only a box with internal disk and with 2 x terrestrial and 2 x Satellite is a true Combo PVR.

If you want a REAL Saorview PVR and a real Freesat PVR you need two boxes.

Note for reliability an external HDD on a Combo with "recording feature" needs a separate PSU. Is there ANY true PVR that's a combo and Saorview approved?

at the moment i have them a tr112 with an external (usb powered) 1Tb HDD. Its a bit of a pain as they need to use this and the skybox all the time and they cant record on the skybox..hence the need. I have an old Azbox at home..maybe I could get a saorview tuner card for that...m

Still looking for box recommendations..tv trade seems to have options from 70euro to 170euro, any of these any good~?

I use the triax tsc 114 saorview approved combo and am quite happy with it.
It uses an external hard drive via a usb.

Despite being saorview approved, there is no series link on the Irish channels but you can set up a recording via it's 7 day epg.
The satellite end of things only has a now and next,so to record from them, you must set up a manual record which can be finicky, the first time you do it but grand once you know how.

Tv trade.ie do them and have a you tube channel user guide that's quite helpfull.

What I like about it is you can order the channels in whatever manner you want unlike many other boxes..creating your own epg.

You can mix and match terrestrial and satellite at whatever position on your epg .

I live in an area that gets UK freeview,so my triax epg contains satelite only channels like cbs drama, cbs action etc and UK freeview channels like Dave and obviously the saorview channels.

We used a triax tri link kit to power up magic eyes to work the combo box from all tv's in the house.

I'd highly recommend this combo box.

Because it's not a PVR and not approved as a PVR, it's a recording feature. If the main recording needs are UK channels then best to get true Freesat + HD PVR with dual tuners, series link, Interactive, Full 7 day EPG and a separate box for Saorview.

A two box solution is cumbersome in my view.
OK no series link on the triax but then we are in a country that likes doing things right but runs out of money and ends up having to finish things on the cheap.

Besides nobody died from using a VCR.
I'm a bit strange and follow the old series of Dallas on CBS drama.
All I did is set the thing to record every day at 659pm untill 801pm.
Works a treat, except for the hour of judge Judy I get on Saturdays and Sundays :D

I also love the geeky side of me putting 5regional versions of BBC 1 side by side.
Not an episode of Dallas missed yet :)

Bought the walker. No integrated channel list but it seems to work fine with my 1tb verbatim drive. If a little slow when loading other media

I was speaking to a guy in an electrical store this week and he was pretty sure that you can't record an Irish channel and simultaneously watch a show on Freeview at the same time (or vice versa) without it stopping the recording. Is what he says true or could this problem be overcome with the triax box for example?

Was he referring to Freeview or Freesat ?
