I'm going to the South of France for ten days on Wednesday (8th). I've only just copped on that both the 8th and 9th are public holidays in France...grrr. Will the whole country go on shutdown like it does at Bastille or will the supermarkets etc be open does anyone know? Thanks

The larger edge of town supermarkets and hypermarkets like Auchan and Carrefour will definitely be open.

It all depends on where you are. In a village with 100 people then yeah, things will be shut. In a city with millions of people and you may not notice the difference.

In the Languedoc, about equal distance from Carcassonne and Narbonne....
