I have a flight from Dublin at 6:15am this week to Europe. What time can I get away with checking in considering I have 1 piece of luggage to check in?
They say 2 hours but 4:15am is a bit extreme.

With luggage to check in I wouldn't leave it much later than 5 allowing for a queue at the check in desk and a longer one at security.

The airport is very busy at that time of day.

Be at the airport by 4.30, there is always long queues in the mornings and you need to be at your gate for 5.45.

If you are from Dublin you can go out and check in the bag the evening before between 4 and 8.

Really? We will be in the airport hotel the previous evening so this could be a perfect option.

    yes here are futher details

If you do it then I would be in for 5.00, T2 security isn't as bad as T1 but with it being the summer it will be busy.

You can also pay airport genie a fiver and get the express security option. Well worth it when travelling at that time.

How do I find the airport genie?

I would say an hour most people have carry on,you can check in online and just do a bag drop

it was always 1 hour for European and 2 hours for international

You must be joking - security alone can take an hour at that time of the morning. Minimum 90 minutes

I have often gotten a flight during the morning rush (when the entire Dublin based AerLingus and Ryanair fleet departs) and been grand.
    BUT
    just do the maths.
Theres just over 20 aerlingus flights (so say 22) departing terminal 2 in that hour and a half from 6.15 to 7.45 so with 180per flight and every flight 2/3s full you have "only" 2600 going through security on a middling busy day.

At holiday times the planes will be practically full so rather than 2600 you have almost 4000 who need to be cleared through security in T2 in a very short space of time.
Anyone like me that had an easy time in T2 most likely wasnt there at peak times.

Just print off your voucher and you're good to go. I use it traveliing at busy times and it's invaluable.

It's the busiest time at Terminal 2 - definitely allow at least two hours because of security queues, or just pay for the airport genie.

Definitely 2 hours just incase as it will take a while to get through security - have arrived at Dublin Airport at 430am to catch Aer Lingus flights to Germany and Manchester and takes a good while to get through security etc.....

Terminal 2 an improvement though - Brgds Johnny

Hi, I just tried to check-in online. My flight is more than 30 hours away so I have to use Advanced Check-In. The Aer Lingus site is forcing me to pick seats and charging me €5 for the privilege. Is that new??
Any other tips for online checkins?

I think up until recently you couldn't check in online with Aerlingus unless it was within 30 hours of departure, so this is a new option and yes you have to pay for seats in order to do it. I always use it as it's much handier going away on holidays with both boarding passes (unless you have access to a computer and printer while away).

You can check in online within 24 hours and pick your seat. It's free.
