I'm just wondering what people think this car would be worth. 2005 skoda octavia 1.9tdi ambiente with skoda alloys on top of the usual ambiente spec. New model 180k km. no marks or dents really. Taxed till end August 2 year nct test. The reason I ask is the prices for these cars seem to be all over the place huge variation. Any advice on what the car would be worth would be appreciated thanks.

IMO I'd pay 3.5k tops, but as you say prices are all over the place. If selling I think I'd start at €4250 and see how I did:)

Think it goes back to asking vs selling prices. Personally I know of a clean 06, historied and tested that went for €4250 in March.

Also the abundance of undeclared ex taxis seems to be filling the classifieds ATM (the leather look rear and passenger seats and regular drivers seat are just a giveaway!)

On saying that a guy near me bought an 06 DSG tdi ex taxi with 475000km and a good history for 2.5k in february. Driven it and it really is as tight as a drum. Maybe a testament to the previous cabby, also a testament to what they can last to if minded:)

Thanks for your help. It's not my car but my dads. Ill be interested to see what he gets for it. He has it up on 2 years it was never a taxi and the milage is genuine.

I'd say you'd know well the best way to present and advertise your dads car, and I can tell you care for and mind your cars.

Good luck with the sale, and hope you get the top estimate:)

That car is worth more than €3500 imo. VAG diesel cars go for serious and in some cases silly money these days. I reckon that car would go for at least €4500 if not more all day long if it is straight imo. 180k km is only 112k miles which is pretty average for an 8 year old diesel.

I agree VAG tdis still make strong money.

But it is a buyers Market and a good 06 was sold for 4250 a couple of months ago by someone I know. If your in the Market for one you're spoiled for choice, some good, some terrible.

Hope the car does make the top of the estimate, or someone is out there willing to pay more.

You can always set any asking price you want. Selling price is a different story:)

My dad was hoping to get around the money your talking. Its on donedeal anyway so we will have to wait and see. The car is straight and well minded. He only serviced it a month ago or so. Hopefully he'll get what he wants for it as it is a very genuine car tbh. Thanks for the advice.

Ask enough at the start. Its easy to advertise it again at a lower price if you get very little interest. No point in giving the car away either.

A good clear add with lots of pictures will stand out. You know yourself!!

I honestly think your friend undervalued his car to sell it at that price.

Was a good car, well presented, started at €4950, reduced after 3 weeks and no viewers to €4750.

Still took over a month to shift, lots of messer s with no money and ridiculous swops and offers.

I take your point bazz26, twas a lot of car for the money. But that's the problem now, you can sell a car up to 2k, the amount people may have to hand, you can even sell a new car if you offer good cheap finance (eg Volkswagen bank) but good second hand cars are hard sold at around the 5k price point (personal loans if you can get them aren't cheap)

That sounds really cheap was there 300k km on it or something? Ill agree though its a hard enough market to sell anything but you can be lucky sometimes. We sold a master in 12hours only last week about 12 calls on it. But I think the one owner thing attracted most people. Ill keep you all updated on the sale.

Not the colour of that, 210kms, and very clean too.

Good luck with the sale :)

But it is a buyers Market

It is far from a buyers market for the car in question. Good diesel cars in that price range are in seriously short supply and have not dropped significantly in value for a long time.

Just an update on the car. Still hasn't sold small bit of interest but not much. I'm fairly surprised tbh as these cars generally sell like hot buns. And my dads one is about as clean as they come considering its 2005. It's funny because we sold a van a few weeks ago. We both thought we would have major hassle trying to shift the van and the car would sell over night. It was quite the opposite the van sold within 12hours first guy to see it bought it straight away he couldn't believe how clean it was.

I know if someone actually came to view the car they would most likely buy it. My dad is not terribly bothered either way as he will just keep it if he can't get a reasonable offer on it. No point in letting a good car that needs no work go for buttons. Thanks everyone for the advice. Ill let you all know what happens with it in the end.

How long has the car being advertised as the thread is only just over a week old so unless he is desperate to get rid of it then I'd sit tight and not panic yet. Sometimes it can take time to sell a car so I wouldn't go dropping the price yet.

No he's not desperate to sell. The car is up probably a week and a bit. You are probably right best just to sit tight on it. Thanks for the advice.

No takers after only a week may not mean it is overpriced. I'd definitely sit tight once he is in no rush.

I've tried searching donedeal for your car, can't find it. Is the one in Leitrim?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,042 ✭✭✭Bpmull

Unfortunately I was just talking to him literally 5 minutes ago and he's decided to keep it. As the deal on the replacement car fell through. And he doesn't have the time to look for another one. The octavia he has had no faults so it suits him to keep it. I'm sorry if I was wasting anyone's time. But he was selling it up until 10 minutes ago. It was the blue one on donedeal. He got 3 calls tonight of people who wanted too look at it. So he would have easily got 4500 euro for it. So not selling it wasnt about the money aspect. But he has decided the car is worth more to him. Thank you all for your help as usual.
