Could anyone recommend me good wheels for this bike? Its only being used to get to and from work.

    Please help.

I usually just go in to a repair shop and as them to replace the rim. Chances are your hub is still good.

The rims I use are Mavic A319s which seem pretty hard wearing and are relatively cheap. My bike is a hybrid as well.

If you feel adventurous you can always try to replace the rim yourself but it's harder than it looks to get the spoke tension right.

By the way that's a very interesting failure. I've never seen anything like that. Was the side of the rim worn very thin before this happened or did you somehow side swipe something?

Check out rosebikes.com. Much better value than CRC on wheelsets, and their own builds are great quality from what I've heard.

    i.e Deore LX wheelset under 100e - http://www.rosebikes.com/article/atb-wheel-set-28-xtreme-airline-3--shimano-deore-lx-fh-hb-t670/aid:640684

    or even cheaper plain Deore:

I've the same wheels on one of my bikes, what happened, just wear ? Was there any sign of degradation previously ?

Just wear I guess. Some time ago I had some piece of metal/little stone stuck in brake pad, as it was making noise every time I was breaking. I replaced brakepads, as they were worn, and noise stopped, but you could see a little row in rim. So its totally my fault. I was commuting on this bike with panniers for past three years in Dublin, 13k done, and had no problems until now.

The problem is my wheel has only 24 spokes, and those rims are taking 32 minimum

This is pretty standard wear on the braking surface. Dirty brake pads accelerate this wear but it'll happen to pretty much all alu rims. In the OP's pic, you can see a wheel in the background. There's a thin black line running around the braking surface. This is a wear indicator. As long as you can see/feel that line, your rim still has life left. Once the line is gone, the rim is worn out and should be replaced. If you continue using that rim, it wears to the point where the pressure of the tyre bends the rim out to breaking point.

Looking at your pic, that spoke pattern is gonna be hard to replicate though here's a 24h one but you'll probably need spokes too...

That is something I didn't know. I remember some time ago the guy in the shop mentioned this, but I didnt really listened...

Maybe its just to much hassle with replacing rim. Any wheel recommendation? for 32 mm tires ?
