Na unless the liver and kidneys are pristine dump them but away from other rabbits. Could be tape worms and iv heard of something else which i can't remember but its contagious to humans so disinfect all round you that's why I always field dress them just real quick skin and gut so i can discard any infected bunnys plus less mess at home and a bit of sport off the birds coming in to feed, quick tip dump entrails in the same place every time you shoot and after a while doing that you'll have an easy shot on a Charlie when you want it.

it is my best rabbit spot full of rabbits i could have shot 30 or 40 rabbits if i wanted to but i was going to leave it off until the small tadeens got a bit bigger and have a few good days down there its all hilly ground with small clumps of cover walking in rabbits i hunted it all last few years and never seen this in them

that could be your issue right their to many rabbits, they'll do far better with a bit of thinning out especially if your foxen to.

Fluke is a parasite so i would just avoid eating them unless kidneys and liver are clear i don't no much about worms and parasites in rabbits but i do no you can safely eat them with tape worm but i don't, their more then plentiful so i wouldn't worry about looping your favourite bunny spot especially this time of year and considering the mild winter id say their numbers are up this year.

Jesus if ther mixie shoot away and try rid the place of it. Obviously trying to shoot the rabbits with it. No harm I would say. Especially if the numbers are high try get the ones with mixie

You can eat meat from deer with fluke, just not the liver, so if it is fluke, in assume the same would apply, but as above poster said, rabbit is more plentiful, so your options are better I suppose.

    It's not mixxy
It's liver fluke and is not recommended to even give to the dogs ( words from the local vet )

    No no
The vet said to me when I asked about it that she wouldn't recommend giving the meat itself to the dogs
Could make them sick he said

That's interesting, I have eaten meat from venison which had liver fluke, just discarded the organs etc. I also know from speaking to butcher friends that lamb sometimes come in with fluke and the carcass is still regarded as fit for human consumption!!

I was going to give them to the ferrets
Il be headin out later on about 5 to shoot some troublesome crows eating cow feed so if I come across a rabbit il take it and if there's fluke il give to ferrets

every rabbit i got had it i wouldent trust eating them now just in case anyway but its a bit of sport and food for my ferrets so thay wount go to wast but the bad thing is i dont have a spot with this amount of rabbits if u wanted to you could get 30 rabbits at your ease down here and the farmer is sound so its a balls there gone like this

Yeah its is a shame to loose a favourite spot but maybe do some damage control and take out as many as you can but saying that its strange for every single rabbit to have fluke or what ever it is. What's your general area maybe some one else here can say if their having the same problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 245 ✭✭thekevin4540

a bit more research, there are nine coccidian parasites that affect sheep, cattle, chickens. rabbites.the one that effects rabbits livers is called E Stiedae it is spread in the rabbits faeces, it is more common in young from 1-4 mounths, it can stunt the rabbits growth, and weight but mortality is not high.it is also non-zoonotic which means it cannot be transmitted to humans. it is also species-specific

I asked my ag. Science teacher and we agreed it would be livcer fluke, but that would not matter for eating unless you intend to eat the liver :D:D:D
