In a bit of a mess all right. Presumably the house is vacant. I think it was a former music critic of the Irish Times who lived there in the past and had a prefab like extension built across the trackbed.

That's a pity. I remember photographing the site back in early 2009 when the Luas works was in full swing. Despite been surrounded in a construction site, the station was in pristine condition and the interior was immaculate, I hope it hasn't got broken into. I wonder why the occupants have not returned and what future does this old D&WR structure have.:(

The Luas end of things is very well organised, since I was there last the old cast iron bridge parapets have been recycled as below:

Charles Acton (Irish Times music critic) must be spinning in his grave after that attack on his formerly immaculate property. :(

Slightly off topic but in the Brian MacAongusa book about the line he mentions that a film "Johnny Nobody" was shot on the closed line around June 1960 when a single track remained between Carrickmines and the junction. Anyone know if there is any decent footage of railway interest in the film?

Only a small amount of footage in the movie - at Carrickmines and on the coastal route - a bit of artistic licence was used but I doubt anybody will have noticed. A damn good film too. Was released on VHS but not on DVD. That said, a Google search brings up an assortment of bootleg DVD versions.

Do you get to see any exterior view of the trains? maybe an AEC or an authentic sound of a Crossley enginned locomotive - probably wishing too much of course!:D

I'll take a look at my copy tomorrow - feel sure it was C-class haulage alright. I have a lobby card of Carrickmines that I'll put up shortly. :)

It appears that I was delusional and my set of 8 lobbycards doesn't contain Carrickmines - I was thinking of this film still. You can just about make out the silver C-class in the background.

Interesting, the weeds on the platform obviously showing the station's disuse over the couple of years since closure, and the train on the Down line, assuming the Up line had already been lifted by 1960/61.

According to the "Irish Railfans News", the Up line was gone by the time of the filming.
