    Must be the weather...

PC running fine all weekend so I decided to rearrange my office this weekend. Plugged everything out moved it all around and plugged it back in. Everything comes back up except the pc. No noise from the psu. Tried different cable and different plug hole. Nothing. When I flick the switch on the back of the psu a light comes on the gfx card but nothing else. Any ideas?

Start by checking all connections from the PSU, also the power switch header on the motherboard. Chances are something came loose while moving it/

Cheers. Had no real idea, so just pushed everything, and it did eventually come back to life, but now Win7 is not seeing my second SATA hard drive. It's not even appearing in the disk management utility. Again tried 'fixing' it by pushing all the bits a little harder, but to no avail so far.

Swap the cables about to see if it is the connectors or cables. Beware of twisted pins too.

Turns out the data cable had somehow worked itself loose. Plugged it back in and it's all good now. However, I'm still a little concerned about the power. It took several attempts to get it on again after this last case open. The case I have (Design R4) comes with a 'reset' button at the front, I pressed it out of hope yesterday and then the power came back. I think that's just a massive coincidence though, there's nothing connected to that button afaik.

Any reason why power wouldn't come on for a while after shutting down?

There are a load of little pins that connect the case buttons to the motherboard. Again, chances are the power button has worked loose (must have taken a rattle at some point to knock all this out of place!)
Just trace back any wires coming from the front of the case to the motherboard and press them in lightly, they aren't very strong so be a bit more gentle with these.

Problem is trying to get at the power header on the mobo (if that's what you're talking about?) involves some heavy moving - they're behind the gfx card which is behind a fan and... ok, just those two things, but still :)

Ah not so bad. Bit annoying but I don't think you're doing any damage if you want to just wait until you have some time to go digging into the pc.

I might aswell resurrect my old post. We had a bit of lightning storm overhead last night, and when I woke up this morning, my PC was dead (and just my PC, PS3, monitors and laptop all working fine). No lights come on at all now. Tried a different power plug and nothing. I'm guessing the PSU is blown (but again, why just this one - everything is plugged into a surge protector) but is there a cheap and easy way to find out for sure?

Find a friend with a PSU to check it out. That or throw €50 at a new PSU in the hopes that is the problem, but finding a friend with a spare would be preferable. If you have any local PC repair shop, usually there is a no fix, no fee policy so at the very least they might be able to test it since they have all the parts nearby.
