hi.i have bought car with tax expired on 01/13.i have recieved logbook on friday.
if am going to tax my car for 3 months(cant afford for longer) i will recieve tax disk wich will have expiry date of 04/14.Is that correct?
or do i have to go to garda station and declare car being off road for last 3 months?how long does it take?what papers i need to do that?
i heard about new law, that you can only declare in advance? is that law on now?

If you tax it for 3 months, it'll expire in 07/13. Though if you bought it at the end of April it'll be 06/13

You are only responsible for tax since you purchased it.

So if you bought three months it would expire 07/13

You are only liable for motor tax from the begining of the month that you become the new registered owner. If the car wasn't taxed before then it is not your concern or you are not liable. So if you tax it next week for 3 months it will expire on 31st July.

if you bought it in April though, which is possible, you may need to go to the Barracks and declare you didn't use it on the road from purchase until now OR pay the tax back to the start of April, which will mean your disc will expire at the end of 6/13 (not to sure, maybe after the end of the month you would actually have to pay for 4 months in this instance)
