Would anyone have any opinions on the build quality of *modern* Gazelle, Batavus and Sparta bicycles which are in a similar price range? That is, how they compare to one another?

Particularly town bikes with 'sit up' handlebars, (not racing bikes).

Are they all 'much of a much'?

Gazelle bikes are all made in The Netherlands. Batavus and Sparta are owned by Accell, Batavus being still made exclusively in The Netherlands whilst Sparta (Apeldoorn) have some of their frames made in Hungary.

Quality should be similar as these brands really live or die by the solidity of their frames and general build. That said, there is more to a bike than the frame and the parts, gears, brakes etc will be sourced elsewhere though across a range of similar bikes you'll tend to get similar component choices.

Soooo, yes, quality-wise they should be similar. They can and do ride differently though so try before you buy. If it were my money I'd go for a Gazelle but that's just me.

Are you looking at a specific type?

    Thanks for the info.

Just a dutch city bike. Though nothing more specific than that.
