Dead PSU or Dead Motherboard or... something else ?

    HI Guys,

Disaster of disasters ... my 2009 self build PC seems dead to the world. All fine Friday night but when I tried to turn it on yesterday morning....nothing happened.

I thought it might be the Corsair 800w PSU but I managed to find a Corsair 400w PSU in the attic and with that plugged (just to the mobo) I get the same result. Motherboard has no lights and nothing happens when I switch the pc on.

Could it be a dead motherboard ? The motherboard is "Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard".

Any help much appreciated. This crappy laptop is wrecking my head :(

Have you tried a CMOS reset? There'll either be a button on the back panel, a button on the motherboard, or you'll have to pop the CMOS battery out for ~30 seconds.

If it didn't work with a new PSU, odds are it's the motherboard or CPU. That said, maybe try it in a different wall socket just to rule out the (very unlikely) possibility of something coming lose in there.

Ok. So I put the paper clip in the 24pin and kept the 8pin on the mobo to power teh psu. Removed all other power cables to gpus and hdds.

Plugged in and the fans on case start to spin and psu fan is running. Still no lights on mobo though.

Looking like motherboard (Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard) is dead ?
