I've already emailed Maynooth directly about this, and the response that I got led me to believe that this is indeed possible, but she didn't sound too sure of what I was talking about.

Basically, after completing first year of MH203 "Computer Science and Software Engineering" (while doing the modules in, say, Computer Science, Maths, Experimental Physics and Mathematical Physics), is it then possible to drop the computer science in second year and continue onto a degree in, say, Applied Maths, similar to if one entered the college through MH201 "Science"?

    Thanks

Do you mean can you switch in to MH201 from MH203? If so then yes, the whole idea with the science streams having a common first year was to allow students to transfer.

Yes, that's what I meant. So that would mean that really it doesn't matter (to a certain extent) which of the science streams you enter through the cao, as long as you have the right combination of modules in first year then you can continue along whichever degree path you choose (in the science department)? Would I be correct in thinking that?

To a certain extent yes, depending on places available and decent grades of course, obviously if you were doing the opposite and wanted to switch to MH203 good grades in the first year CS modules would make things go easier.
