Advice on phd or refresher courses

Hi all I have a degree in psychology and a masters degree in psychology both of which I did in the UK and are recognised there with the BPS . I. Also have a post grad diploma and various other courses mostly at certificate level. They are all in the area of intellectual disability Down syndrome and autism. I was really interested in that area at that time and worked in early intervention with those qualifications . I completely changed direction though and went off working in the tech industry for years.

Now I would like to make use of my qualifications but no longer want to work with children or I know I need to do a phd of some sort but am a bit confused. There are masters degrees in counselling psychology are these not enough to become a counsellor here? If not then I do need to do a phd but am a bit worried about studying at that level having been out of the area for a while.

I am not sure what I should do as a reintroduction to study and to psychology.
Any ideas ?

Not quite sure what's being asked here - do you want to be a psychologist? Would you like to work in academia/research, clinical, counselling, health, forensic, occupational?
