    Hi Guys,

How does insurance work for apartments, does the block insurance cover house insurance or do you also have to get a separate insurance for your own apartment and the contents in it?

The block policy covers the building elements and you need to get a contents policy to cover your contents

In Ireland I can't insure your property so the block insurance probably covers the public areas and common systems (water, heating etc) - you'd need to take out your own insurance for your own belongings. Search this forum, I remember a thread not so recently about this, there might be prices there

Block insurance covers the exterior and structure of the building. You need your own contents insurance. If you modify the interior in such a manner that it impacts on the structural integrity of the building, you are personally liable, not the insurance company, to rectify any and all damage or potential damage (which could extent to fixing up your neighbours, and/or those above or below you).
