Landowner requests

Hi guys, just looking for some advice on dealing with a land owner.

The OH let an acre in Wicklow to put 2 small ponys on in February all was going ok until the owner called about 5 weeks later and wanted them gone.

Fair enough it's their land so we offered the to pay to the end of the month and move the pony's by the end of the week they refused and asked to get them off the land ASAP so we did.

About a week later they called saying that fences where broken and wanted them repaired and the field was ploughed up and wanted it sorted too. We fixed the fence without question despite the posts being rotten through and wire rusted rather than damaged. We then walked the field, replaced sods and now the land just needs to recover I think!

I've never let a field before and I understand wanting the fence fixed but now they keep calling demanding the field be put back in the condition it was let in. My question I suppose is is this a reasonable request? If so how do you fix a field! I'd of thought a couple of months of growth/summer would do it?

    thanks,
    nb

The way i see it is that it is not your problem any more and you can move on and forget about it , if the farmer allowed you in to his land in Feb with horses and took rent off you well than its his fault the field was dug up,and i think his trying to get his field reseeded and fenced at your expense.

from what you've said so far you seem to be fairly reasonable tbh..

was anything signed when you let/rented the field, was it done through an auctioneer....did the document specify that ponies/horses etc were not supposed to go on the field?

if not then I'm not entirely sure I would have even mended the old fence - speaking as a landowner I would have thought it would be their responsibility to have it properly fenced before letting it to you (but then again I have never let any of mine)

im sure more knowledgeable people will give you a better answer

Id say he wants the field reseeded and new fencing put up for free

Sounds like a right chancer, lets a fieds IN FEBURARY, and then 5 weeks later wants it back.
Gets it back, gets his fencing up-dated, and now wants the field reseeded!

Bet if you ask around he has a rep. for trying to pull a fast one.

I would ignore him. If he gets silly with solicitors, you could ask if he declared the money you paid as income. Tell him there is such a thing as on "on line" reporting to the Revenue.

    All over one acre.

Agree with posters above. Guy seems to be some chancer and completely unreasonable. You need to let him know u wont be walked over. Tell him u have more than facilitated your side of the bargain and it is finished as far as you are concerned.

Thanks for all the advice I'm going to tell her where to go. For what its worth I found out there were horses/ponies on this land before so she should of had some idea of what to expect.
