Do gaa clubs have the rights to put photos of kids that play for the club without asking parents first.

Is there a legal issue doing this without permission

In the legal sense of solicitors and courts, it depends.

More realistically, you should look at the relevant GAA guidelines on pages 54 and 55 of Our Games Our code.

It's recommended that you seek premission through including a consent clause on your annual registration form and that your club has policies/editorial controls regarding how/where/when photos are used.

generally as long as kids aren't named, there shouldn't be a problem

I think the Legal Forum would be a better place to ask this, but AFAIK the way way to deal with people posting pics without your permission is to request them to be removed and if the request isn't followed you get the solicitors involved.

I'm not sure what the legalities of it all are though. I mean, you take any underage final, 10's or 12's or whatever, and the team picture would be in the local paper and potentially online. Is there permission granted there? I've never heard of it anyway, nor have I ever heard of any issues about it.

generally with things like that its an 'opt out' issue for parents
a membership form needs to have an 'I agree to the club using photos for promotional purposes' box to be ticked by parents

some parents can be really fussy on this

Is it any different to a soccer club, or a rugby club, or a basketball club, or a netball club,or a hockey club, or an athletics club, or a chess club, or a drama group, or a ballet group, or any type of club? All membership forms have 'opt out' boxes that parents tick. If they don't want little Johnny in the photo that is their prerogative however unless they have completed the registration form they are not allowed to play if the club is doing it's job correctly.

why would you not want to have your kid's picture in the paper or on the club's webpage ?
